A study by Busby and Griffiths (2006, see www.llrc.org) at the surroundings of Trawsfynydd shows highly significant excess cancer risk at all ages from 2003-2005. This effect is even higher in the younger people. For people below the age of 50 15 times more cancer in women was found than would be expected on the basis of national figures for England and Wales. This excess cancer rates could result from the consumption of contaminated fish from the Trawsfynydd lake.

Testing samples of RPV welds indicted faster deterioration rate than expected. (irradiation effects on the welds are greater than expected). Meanwhile the results of the tests were beeing analyzed by metallurgists at Berkeley Laboratories, the reactor's pressure is reduced by about 10% to reduce stress on the vessel.
