Last week's raging floodwaters on the Susquehanna and Ohio Rivers had little effect on the four nuclear plants that rely on the rivers for feedwater.
Peach Bottom was the only plant that reduced power and came closest to an immediate shutdown. PECO declared an unusual event (UE) January 20 when the river reached 34,7 m above sea level.
Both units coasted down to 50% power. Had the river reached 33,6 m above sea level, PECO would have had to immediately shut down the units.

Emergency service water system was susceptible to inoperability due to flooding, This was due to installation of unqualified penetration seals in the room flood walls during modification , Condition existed since before 1982.

HPCI system inoperable because of inadequate ESW flow through the ECCS room coolers, discovered during surveillance, restriction caused by silt and corrosion buildup. Moreover: the ESW was found to be subject to failure in the event of a loss of instrument air. this could cause the ventilation system to fail and result in overheating of the pumps.

Voltage tarnsient resulted in an undervoltage condition on the HPCI 250 VDC bus, HPCI inoperable for about 10 min, three more events occurred on 3.8., and 4.8., caused by degradation of a battery charger support piece.
